IPSL Student Profiles

Over the past 25 years, IPSL has accepted students from over 400 institutions of higher education, with majors ranging from sociology to chemistry to international development. IPSL students are united by their academic curiosity, desire to serve, interest in other cultures, and sense of adventure. Amy Sorenson

Czech Republic, Spring 2002

Amy liked her spring semester in Prague so much, she decided to return in the Fall.

Ashley Bristowe

Philippines, 1995

On IPSL’s program in Manila, Philippines, Ashley discovered that her service experiences combined with the academic studies at Trinity College allowed her to enter Philippine culture and make a real difference in the lives of local people.

Carrie Pavlik

Jamaica, Spring 2005

Carrie’s IPSL experience in Jamaica led her to join the Peace Corps.

Christine Bayles

Ecuador - Quito, 1997

Christine’s interest in other cultures took her to Ecuador on the IPSL Quito program, and eventually led to a Ph.D. in Socio-Cultural Anthropology.

David’s interests have led him around the world and to pursue a master’s degree in International Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Megan Barbano-Maxwell

MA in International Service, (Mexico) 2000

Megan wrote her thesis about volunteerism in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and is now Director of Mentoring Services at Big Brothers Big Sisters International in Philadelphia.

Sarah Pearlman

MA in International Service, (Jamaica) 2003

Sarah’s interest in food supply and distribution was a central theme to her M.A. program. She now works for as Manager of Volunteer Services for City Harvest, a food rescue program in New York.

Sebastian Tonkin

Sebastian's gap year took him across Europe and eventually to India on IPSL's Kolkata program.

Sofia Jasani

India, Spring 2005

On the IPSL India program, Sofia served at Shishu Bhavan, Mother Teresa’s home for orphaned children in Kolkata.

Stephanie Cochran

Mexico & France, Summer & Fall 1999

Stephanie experienced two different cultures by participating in the IPSL summer program in Guadalajara, Mexico, followed by an IPSL semester program in Montpellier, France.

Steven Lize

MA in International Service, (Jamaica) 1997

Steve’s IPSL M.A. in International Service led him to earn a doctorate in Sociology. Today, he works on human trafficking and modern slavery issues for Free the Slaves in Washington, D.C.
